Tax Refund Options

If you have filed your taxes and are entitled to a refund, the IRS gives you several options for receiving it.

Check
When you e-file your return, you should receive your refund check within 3 weeks.  If you mail your return to the IRS, you'll typically receive your tax refund in 6 to 8 weeks.

Direct Deposit
E-file your return, and the IRS will deposit your refund in your bank account within 8 to 15 days.  If you mail in your return, direct deposit generally takes 5 to 7 weeks.

Refund Anticipation Loan (RAL)
A Refund Anticipation Loan (RAL) is a loan based on the amount of your anticipated tax refund.  You will receive RAL proceeds within 1-3 days after filing your tax return electronically.  When the IRS and/or State taxing authority sends your actual tax refund to our banking partner, the refund pays off your loan and any additional funds are remitted to you.

RAL Disbursement Options

Cashier’s Check
The Cashier’s Check is the traditional disbursement method for a RAL.  When the RAL is approved, or a State or Federal refund received, a check is issued to you by our office.

Direct Deposit
With Direct Deposit, your RAL proceeds are electronically deposited into your pre-existing checking or savings account.  This means that you don’t have to return to the office to pick up a check.  To elect this option, you must have a pre-existing checking or savings account.  We will need your bank's 9-digit routing number and your account number to process (see example below).  This option takes a few days longer than the Cashier’s Check.  After the money is transferred, it can take up to four days for your bank to credit the funds to your account.
